Programs Serving Virus On the Name of Speeding Up Your PC

How My PC Got Infected?

This was the first question in my mind that what made me download these programs and why my Windows PC had started showing Popup ads to buy softwares for speeding up my computer.

Later digging deep, I found that one of my sister's kids had downloaded a game called City Racing a few days before. This game come up in a bundle of two extra things, which I later discovered as Malware, The Names were PC Accelerate Pro and One Click Speedup.

What is PC Accelerate Pro?

PC Accelerate Pro is malicious software for Windows PC, which claims it will speed up your computer and will show you false issues. It got a ‘Fix Issues Now’ button at the bottom which will ask to purchase this program for $39.9 USD. Anyway, that was the reason which made me suspect it.

Now as usual what most peoples do in the world, I Googled about it and found that this software has the potential to theft your data, can use your PC camera, Can still passwords and other browser information, It can also install other programs and extensions on your browser and PC.

Wow, the first thing in mind how to uninstall it. Well how I did, I will explain below, Let’s first know more about the other thing it installed i.e One Click Speedup.

What is One Click Speedup?

Like PC Accelerate Pro, One Click Speedup is also an unwanted program that claims that it's a system optimizer, and once installed it will show up several issues that were been detected on your computer. There will be a ‘Start Repair’ button which will land you on a browser page asking for $49.9 USD one time. The story was similar with this app as well.

Later after more research, I come to know that this app changes its name from time to time.

No doubt, they can come up with other names in the future. So if you see something matching to the above name and unwanted in your list of programs. Get rid of that as soon as you can.

How to uninstall these softwares?

Here is what I did to uninstall these softwares.

  1. On the Start menu, type ‘Control Panel’.
  2. ‘Control Panel’ will appear in the search box best match section, select it.
  3. The Control panel will open up saying Adjust your computer setting at the top and options of adjusting things below.
  4. There will be an option called ‘Programs’ in it, under that there will be a short option saying Uninstall a program, Hit on ‘Uninstall a program’ option.
  5. A new window will open up with a list of all programs you have on your computer saying ‘Uninstall or Change a Program’ at the top.
  6. Select the one matching PC Accelerate Pro and One Click Speedup or other programs in the above-matching software list to these ones. Above the program list on the ‘Uninstall or Change a Program’ window, there will be two options ‘Organise’ with drop-down options and next to it there will be ‘Uninstall’. Hit uninstall and Yes to delete all data associated with it in the ‘are you sure?’ window.
  7. Once done with the above process, Open up the browsers you have installed on your PC, go to ‘extensions’ or ‘apps’ in the browser setting, Remove any extension which is unwanted or matches the above names.
  8. Clear your history and website data from the ‘browser setting’. This article from Indiana University on Clear your web browser’s cache, cookies, and history explain it for most of the common browser apps people use on their computer and phones. Reset your browser setting. Check for the default search engine and remove if there is any untrusted one in it.   9. Once you successfully uninstall it, check for any files it had left on your computer by typing its name in the ‘start menu’. Delete if there is any leftover.
  10. Check for any unwanted .exe files and delete them too.
  11. ‘Restart’ your computer and you must be done. If you face any issues, drop your comments below.
